Safety
Last updated: October 7, 2026
Our pieces are accessories and display items for teenagers and adults. They are not toys, and most of them contain small parts. This page sets out what to watch for.
Not a toy
Choking hazard — contains small parts. Not suitable for children under 3. Beads, rhinestones and charms can come loose from a handmade piece and can pose a choking hazard to young children.
Our products are designed, made and sold for teenagers and adults, and are not intended for children twelve or under. If one ends up in a home with young children, keep it somewhere they cannot reach.
Small parts and charms
Nearly everything we make contains small parts. Most of our pieces are beaded, and decoden pieces carry charms set into cured glue. The pieces are made to hold together in normal use, but they are hand-assembled rather than machine-moulded.
- Check beaded keychains and charms every so often, particularly ones clipped to a bag that gets thrown around.
- Keep loose beads or charms away from young children and pets if something does come off.
- Keep beaded pens and styluses away from young children — the beads sit on the barrel, within reach of a mouth.
Glass
Our handheld mirrors and compacts use real glass. If one breaks, the decoden surface can hold broken pieces in place where they are hard to see.
- Stop using a piece that is broken, cracked, or no longer holding together, and set it aside.
- Wrap a broken mirror in thick paper or card before putting it in the bin.
- Do not try to pick fragments out of the decoden — the glue holds them at angles that cut.
- Do not keep using a compact with a cracked mirror, even if the crack looks stable.
Skin contact and sensitivities
Our pieces use beads, rhinestones, metal findings and cured decoden glue. We cannot certify them as hypoallergenic, and we do not test for nickel content. Hair claws and keychains are the pieces most likely to sit against skin for a long stretch.
If you have a known metal allergy or sensitive skin, email us before ordering and we will tell you what a specific piece is made of, as far as we know it.
Tell us
If a piece arrives damaged, breaks in a way that seems wrong, or a child gets hold of a loose part, tell us at hello@dreamberrynyc.com. In the meantime, stop using it, set it aside, and keep it away from children and pets — a broken decoden piece can hold glass or small parts where they are hard to see. Keep the piece only if you can do so safely, and do not send it back until we agree safe return instructions. A photograph or description can help us work out what went wrong. We would rather hear about it than not.
