Product Care
Last updated: October 7, 2026
Everything we make is finished by hand, and most pieces are one of a kind. Different pieces use beads, rhinestones, charms and glue, or 3D-printed PLA, so care appropriate to their materials goes a long way. This page covers how to look after each kind of piece.
The short version
- Keep pieces out of sustained heat — a hot car, a sunny windowsill, a radiator.
- Clean with a dry or barely damp cloth. Never use alcohol, acetone, nail polish remover or household cleaning sprays.
- Store pieces so they are not pressed hard against each other or against keys.
- Nothing we make is waterproof, and none of it belongs in a dishwasher or washing machine.
Beaded pens, styluses, bookmarks and keychains
These are strung bead by bead onto a wire or cord. They are sturdier than they look, but the beads sit against each other, so the things that damage them are pressure and snagging rather than ordinary use.
- Beaded keychains are made to be clipped to a bag and used. Loose in a pocket with keys they will chip over time, so a clip or an outside pocket keeps them looking new — but ordinary use is what they are for.
- Beaded bookmarks work in a book; stored flat rather than compressed under a closed cover, the beads keep their shape.
- If a stylus tip stops responding, wipe it clean and dry. If it still does not respond, contact us.
Our styluses have a backup pen hidden inside, and a small number of our pens do too — the listing says so where it applies. Ink expands in heat, so a pen left in a hot car can leak even when it is capped. Keep them out of direct sun.
Decoden pieces
Our mirrors, compacts, hair claws, photocard stands and photocard keychains are decoden: charms and rhinestones set into piped “cream” glue by hand, then left to cure. Each arrangement is placed individually, which is why no two are identical.
The glue is the part to protect. Solvents dissolve it — so keep decoden pieces away from nail polish remover, hand sanitiser, alcohol wipes, perfume and cleaning sprays. This matters most for hair claws, which live near exactly those things.
- Clean with a dry cloth, or a barely damp one if something has dried on. Do not soak.
- Do not scrub between charms — pressure from a cloth or brush is what lifts them.
3D-printed frames and displays
Our photocard frames and displays are 3D-printed in-house from PLA. PLA is a plant-based plastic that can soften with sustained heat, at temperatures a car interior or a sunny window can reach in summer.
- Never leave a frame in a parked car, on a windowsill in direct sun, or near a radiator or vent.
- Never put one in a dishwasher — heat and detergent both damage it.
- Wipe with a dry cloth. The printed surface has fine layer lines that hold onto liquid.
- The photocard holder is removable, so take the card out before cleaning the frame.
Mirrors
The mirrors in our handheld mirrors and compacts are real glass. They can crack or shatter if dropped onto a hard floor, and a decoden surface makes a mirror heavier and slipperier than it looks.
If a mirror breaks or cracks, stop using it, keep it away from children and pets, and follow our Safety page. Do not try to remove fragments from the decoden. Contact us before returning a broken piece; handle or dispose of it only if you can do so safely.
If something comes loose
These are handmade pieces, and occasionally a charm or rhinestone works free. Do not glue it back yourself — household glues may not match the cure and can leave a visible mark, and re-gluing a piece yourself can make it harder for us to put right. Stop using a piece that is broken, cracked, or no longer holding together, and keep it away from children and pets. Email hello@dreamberrynyc.com with a photograph where reasonably available, or describe the problem, and we will tell you what we can do.
If it arrived faulty, or a fault becomes apparent later with use, our Shipping & Returns policy applies; ordinary wear or damage caused by misuse is assessed separately. No repair service is promised. If we offer a repair, we will agree the work and any cost, including postage, with you before doing anything you have to pay for. A paid repair is not a substitute for any remedy you are entitled to under our Shipping & Returns policy or applicable law.
